Russell Prescott grew up in Exeter, New Hampshire and learned the value of perseverance and hard work from his father who founded a small business more than 50 years ago. After graduating from the University of South Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he went to work in the family business and became a Professional Engineer. In 1984, he and his brother Perrin, took over the business and grew it into a major supplier of well pumps and related equipment, employing 30 people. Small businesses are the backbone of the New Hampshire economy and Russell understands the challenges they face to continue growing and providing jobs. Over-taxation and over-regulation not only stifle the economy, but hurt small businesses. In 2000, Russell Prescott ran for the New Hampshire District 19 Senate seat because he was concerned that the state was heading in the direction of an income tax. Russell won the seat and became a leader in advocating for a tight rein on spending and opposing income, sales or death taxes. He went on to serve two terms and chaired the Executive Department and Administration Committee and was vice-chairman of the Insurance Committee. In 2003 Russell was awarded Legislator of the Year by the New Hampshire Business Council. Today, Russell sees the same "tax and spend" philosophy overtaking the legislature and Executive Council and that's why he is running for the Executive Council District 3 seat. He believes that the Executive Council is the last line of defense against overspending and once again wants to fight to protect New Hampshire values of fiscal conservatism and limited government. Russell and his wife Susan have been married for 26 blissful years and have five incredible children - Rose, 23, attends Fitchburg State; Russell Jr., 21 and Rowen, 19, both attend the University of New Hampshire; Maggie, 17 and Carly, 15, both attend Sanborn High School. The Prescott family resides in Kingston with their Border Collies Kira and Bailey and their Tabby cat Goldie. In Russell's free time, he serves on the Board of the Historical Society and enjoys bass fishing and Chevrolet muscle cars. |
